Summary of Features and Articles

March 2008

Editorial: Plus Ça Change, Plus C'est la Même Chose, by Irving E. Rockwood. Despite the use of technologies unknown when Choice was founded, today's editorial process "would be instantly recognizable to the veterans of 1963-64."

Contributions of Statistics to Modern Progress, by Dharam V. Chopra, professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Wichita State University.

As recently as fifty years ago, few universities had an independent department of statistics; today they are common. Chopra reviews the history of statistics, beginning with the birth of probability in the gambling houses of seventeenth-century Paris. He then covers various statistical techniques and the application of statistics in a host of disciplines. The essay evaluates some 120 resources.

Feature: Recent & Forthcoming Titles in Women's Studies. Regularly appearing each year in the March issue, this selected list provides information on new titles of potential relevance for academic libraries.
