Summary of Features and Articles

July 2007

Editorial: Contradictions and All, by Irving E. Rockwood. Choice's editor and publisher explores the use of print material as Web content.

Essay: Comic Books and Comic Strips: A Bibliography of the Scholarly Literature, by John A. Lent, professor of communication and editor in chief of International Journal of Comic Art.

Not until the 1980s did comic books and newpaper comic strips become the subject of serious academic research and criticism, along with popular culture in general. Lent considers comic art in the U.S. and overseas (e.g., Japanese comics). The essay comprises two major parts: reference titles, and theory and criticism. Lent evaluates over 140 resources.

Feature: Forthcoming Performing Arts & Mass Media Titles, 2007–08. This feature highlights forthcoming titles scheduled for publication from summer 2007 onward. Each of the nearly 250 titles on the list was suggested by the publisher and then selected by Choice for its relevance to undergraduate curricula.

About the Cover: Henry G. Bennett Memorial Library, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, OK. Sharon Morrison, library director. Dan Hoke, photographer.
