Summary of Features and Articles

February 2008

Editorial: 2007: A Look at the Data, by Irving E. Rockwood. Data for 2007 show that Choice continues to fulfill its chartered mission.

Cultural Tourism: Seeking Authenticity, Escaping into Fantasy, or Experiencing Reality, by Brian S. Osborne, Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, and Jason F. Kovacs, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario.

The authors consider tourism from many angles: Exactly what does a tourist experience? What are the economic impacts of tourism on host countries? Does local self-promotion alter what tourists see? How has insecurity about travel in the post-9/11 world dampened tourism? To what extent may virtual tourism supplant traditional travel? This lively essay outlines many possible answers to these and other questions, in the process evaluating more than 150 resources.

Feature: Recent & Forthcoming Titles in African American Studies. Regularly appearing each year in the February issue, this selected list provides information on new titles of potential relevance for academic libraries.

About the Cover: F. Wilbur Gingrich Library, Albright College, Reading, PA. Rosemary Deegan, library director.
