Advertising Specifications and Publishing Information
All advertising is subject to the publisher’s approval. Advertisements are accepted and published entirely on the consideration that the advertiser and its agency, jointly and severally, will indemnify and hold harmless CHOICE, its officers, agents, and employees against any claims or suits based upon any aspect of an advertisement. Publisher reserves the right to reject advertisements considered unacceptable as to wording or appearance, or for any other reason. An advertisement can be canceled at any time by the publisher. Publisher shall not be liable for any failure to print, publish, or circulate, all or any portion of any issue in which an advertisement accepted by the publisher is contained if such failure is due to acts of God, strikes, accidents, or other circumstances beyond the publisher’s control. Neither the advertiser nor its agency may cancel an advertisement after the closing date for an insertion order or reservation. Cancellations must be in writing by the publisher.
Contracts and Discounts
Six-time and eleven-time contracts earning frequency discounts (see Rates) are accepted for one-year periods (eleven issues). Short rate adjustments made at end of contract period if terms are not fulfilled. Two-page spreads count as two insertions. Contract holders will be given reasonable notice of any increase in rates and the opportunity to cancel their contracts at the time the increase becomes effective; if they do not so cancel, the increase will be applied to subsequent insertions under the contract.
Advertisers and their agencies have dual liability to CHOICE in the event of nonpayment for advertising space. That is, the agency is responsible for the client, and vice versa. Statements on agency (or advertiser) insertion orders or contracts negating dual liability are superseded by this required condition (by the American Library Association) of dual liability.
Agency Commission
Discount of 15% to recognized advertising agencies on space, bleed, color, and position. No cash discounts.
First-time Advertisers and Advertisers outside the United States
Payment in full (made in U.S. dollars and drawn on a U.S.bank) is required at time reservations are made. Orders will be accepted on the condition that material will appear in the next available issue after receipt of camera-ready material.
Mechanical Specifications
Send camera-ready material (negatives with emulsion side down, mechanicals, or black-and-white repro proofs). No plates. Materials will be returned only upon request. Proofs submitted for approval only if composition is done by CHOICE. Extra charges incurred by the publisher for typesetting, make-ready, strip-ins, special handling, etc. will be billed directly to the advertiser. Coupon advertising and position of coupon must be specified on insertion order. Trim size: Publication trim size is 8 1/2" x 11". Printed offset on 45 lb. white stock. Covers are 8-point coated cover stock. Perfect binding. No reading notices or classified advertising. Bleeds: $40 extra per page. Full page with bleeds: 8 3/4" x 11 1/4". No fractional bleeds. 1/8" trim in any one direction. Screens: Best screen is 133; maximum is 150.
Electronic Submission
Ad files must be Quark or PageMaker documents. All graphics files and fonts must be included on the disk. If using color, convert RGB to CMYK and submit a color proof with the file. For complete instructions, please contact Pam Marino at 860-347-1387.
Closing Dates
Two months prior to date of issue; the 5th for reservations, insertion orders, and copy to be set; the 15th for camera-ready material. See Editorial Calendar for more information. Cancellations cannot be accepted from advertisers or their agencies after closing dates.
Reprinting Reviews
CHOICE requires a $37.50 permission fee for reprinting a full CHOICE review. There is no charge for quoting or excerpting portions of a CHOICE review. Appropriate credit to CHOICE must be given in either case. Contact CHOICE Permissions for permission to reprint CHOICE reviews.
