Electronic Resources in Communication Studies Committee

Charge:
To investigate relevant electronic resources for communication studies; assess and evaluate relevant electronic resources for usability and function; encourage the development of better electronic resources within communication studies through careful vendor feedback; to inform and educate librarians about relevant electronic resources, their use, and implementation as a library resource; and to update and enhance the Library Resources for Communication Studies web site on a regular basis.

The Committee has established 4 subcommittees to assist with its initial charge.  Their names and charges are included below:

Communication Subcommittee: To inform and educate librarians, and ultimately our users, about relevant electronic resources, their use, and implementation as a library resource; to gain input and feedback from librarians about these resources.

Evaluation/Assessment Subcommittee: Work to identify, examine, and compare electronic resources in communication studies.  The primary task of the subcommittee is to assess and evaluate the "big guns" communication resources (e.g., ComAbstracts, Communication Abstracts, Communication and Mass Media Complete/Communication and Mass Media Index, and Sage Communication Studies Full Text).  The subcommittee will also work to identify and evaluate a selected number of additional electronic resources in related disciplines that serve the needs of communication studies students and faculty.  Finally, the subcommittee will work to improve overall relations and communication with vendors.

Scholarly Communication Subcommittee: Help foster sustainable models for the communication and preservation of scholarly information produced and/or used by scholars within the communication disciplines, as well as seek to establish more formal connections between communication librarians and scholars beyond the individual campus level.  The Subcommittee's efforts will require cooperation and collaboration with scholars, students, vendors, fellow librarians, and other interested parties.

Website Subcommittee: Maintain and enhance on a regular basis the Library Resources for Communication Studies website
