Celebrating Extraordinary Examples of Diversity in Action

Since its inception in 1998, the Diversity Fair and Outreach Fair has been generously supported by DEMCO. Organized by the ALA's Office for Literacy and Outreach Services the Fair has highlighted diversity-in-action initiatives from outreach librarians across the country. It encourages librarians addressing diversity programs, activities and services in local libraries to share their resources with others. It also allows them to glean workable strategies for serving their community's underserved populations, as noted in the OLOS Mission Statement.

What is it?

The Diversity and Outreach Fair is librarians and library staff sharing their experiences and resources through poster presentations and informal conversations with colleagues. Showcase your library's accomplishments and help inspire others interested in creating and sustaining literacy and outreach services at libraries across the country.

Each year the Diversity and Outreach Fair gets more exciting. Participate in the next Fair by completing the entry form either online or by mail. Contact OLOS or email us at divfair@ala.org, for details.

Background

The Diversity Fair was introduced by the ALA's Office for Literacy and Outreach Services at the Annual Conference, as a part of then President Barbara Ford's theme, "Global Reach, Local Touch." Each year the Fair has adopted the ALA President's theme, emphasizing the equity of access, one of ALA's key action areas.
