Article 4 of the Library Bill of Rights states the "Libraries should cooperate with all persons and groups concerned with resisting abridgement of free expression and free access to ideas." To facilitate such cooperation, libraries, individual librarians, and state intellectual freedom committees have joined with booksellers, publishers, artists, civil libertarians, journalists, authors, musicians and other groups and individuals with First Amendment concerns in local, state, and regional coalitions in defense of intellectual freedom.
The ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom maintains a roster of Intellectual Freedom Committee chairs of ALA state and regional chapters, as well as for AASL affiliates.
