Volunteer for JCLC 2012 Committees
We know you are as excited as we are about the 2nd National Joint Conference of Librarians of Color (JCLC) which will be held from September 19-23, 2012 in Kansas City, Missouri. The theme of this conference is “Gathering at the Waters: Celebrating Stories, Embracing Communities.” The JCLC 2012 Steering Committee is now inviting you to accept our open invitation for you to contribute toward the advancement of one of the most dynamic conference planning experiences available – service on one of the JCLC 2012 planning committees.
Imagine building on the solid foundation laid by the first Joint Conference of Librarians of Color (JCLC). Imagine participating in the decision process for JCLC 2012 - as you help to determine how the next JCLC will be held. Imagine a meaningful service opportunity where your vision, ideas, and experiences are valued. Imagine grasping fulfillment as you realize your efforts can make a difference. Imagine working side-by-side with the best and brightest change agents in our profession. We imagine working hand-in-hand with you as we envision the possibilities and then create them. Serving on a JCLC committee is an opportunity to learn how to work with others for a common cause. You will meet old friends and find new ones. It will be a rewarding experience for you and a meaningful contribution to our common goal.
Your expertise, experience and know-how are needed on the following committees:
- Awards and Scholarships Committee
- Evaluation Committee
- Exhibits Committee
- Finance Committee
- Fundraising Committee
- Local Arrangements Committee
- Proceedings Committee
- Program Committee
- Publicity Committee
- Registration Committee
The qualifications to serve on one of these committees are:
- knowledge of the library/information profession
- team player and accountability
- time, energy, determination and dedication
- spirit of sharing and learning from others
- ability to attend at least one face-to-face meeting and to work virtually
Please think about the committee or committees you could make a contribution due to your background, interests, skills, talents, etc. Committee work is usually carried out by email. Committee chairs are expected to present committee reports to the JCLC Steering Committee at ALA Midwinter and Annual. Committees are expected to start working at ALA Annual conference in Washington D.C. in 2010. However, two committees - the Fundraising Committee and the Publicity Committee will start sooner. If you are interested in these two committees in particular, please complete the volunteer form below at your earliest convenience. For questions, please contact Haipeng Li at haipeng4cala@gmail.com, and/or Janice Rice at jrice@library.wisc.edu.
