The American Association of School Librarians (AASL), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), adopted a new Strategic Plan at its Board of Directors meeting on June 26, 2005, during the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago. You can read the new Strategic Plan below:

The following data and reports were made available to support AASL's strategic planning during the 2004-2005 governance year:

bullet point Report from ALA Focus Groups at the AASL 11th National Conference (PDF File*)
Market research conducted October 24-25, 2003, at the AASL National Conference in Kansas City, Mo. ALA contracted with a outside market research firm to conduct three focus groups: new ALA or AASL members; ALA or AASL members who were not active or had limited involvement with the organization beyond membership; and identified leaders in their profession and who were highly active and involved with ALA.

bullet point External Audiences Focus Groups Report (PDF File*)
Report prepared by KRC Research of findings from six focus groups with external audiences--K-12 parents, teachers and principals, as well as middle and high school students--to assess awareness and knowledge of school libraries and librarians; to explore the attitudes about and perceived value of school libraries and librarians among key internal and external audiences; and to find language that most effectively communicates about school libraries, while still fitting within the overall communications of the @ your library campaign.
