2005; AASL Conference “Promoting Collaboration with the SLMP: A Kansas
Vision”, 1994. During my term as KASL Projects Chair, our committee
produced a video promoting School Library Media Specialists that was
distributed throughout Kansas and presented at the AASL Conference in
1994. Recently, as President of KASL, I developed a mentoring program,
Professional Partners Program, to help connect persons new to the
profession with experienced persons to help strengthen our membership
through professional development. STATEMENT:
Through the years, I have seen our profession become more
visible and involved in the legislative activities necessary for
success. My belief is that we need to continue growth in our membership
while providing effective professional development to our members.
Without a well-informed membership, we fall short in meeting our
promises to the very people we hope to influence. Our concerns of
requiring certified SLMSs personnel; adequate budgets, support of SLMPs
in every school, integration of information literacy skills, and more
membership involvement must be addressed. I commend those who have
passionately worked to resolve these issues and hope to become a part of
that team as Director-Elect of Region IX. As Director-Elect, I would
like to seek representation in Affiliate Assembly from all of our states
within our region and to enhance communication so that every school
librarian feels driven to participate in our quest.
