Rolling Five Year Plan

Barbara Wall
Krieger Elementary School, Poughkeepsie, NY

Year One       

  • Insure that the collection meets the cultural and demographic needs of student population. Build collection to meet curricular needs. Learn teachers and staff names. Create non-scheduled activities with at least 3 teachers Learn Follett system
  • Create student volunteer corps
  • Build responsible activities for T. A.
  • Begin to change attitudes toward the library
  • Add to magazine subscriptions for both students and staff
  • Begin curriculum map of "taught" curriculum Meet with grade level teachers and discover their needs. Survey teachers re library program
  • Survey students re library program Have at least two new book functions for staff/teachers Have student and library generated bookmarks for open house
  • Be prepared for activities for half days for parents
  • Reorganize library
  • Weed
  • Create separate spaces for different functions
  • Beautify
  • Create space for T. A.
  • Create space for my collections
  • Build a teacher share shelf and notify teachers of space to bring and share books - honor system borrow and return
  • Invite teachers in - use food, coffee, etc. Go to PTA meetings and ask for parent volunteers
  • Decorate
  • Contribute at staff meetings - booktalk, websites, etc. to share for communal betterment
  • Distribute magazines information to all each month

Year Two       

  • Continue collection building to meet demographics
  • Continue curriculum building of collection
  • Learn students names
  • Create non-scheduled activities with another 3 teachers
  • Build student volunteer corps into a want to be in club --end of year rewards???---in between rewards?????             
  • Work with T.A. to create more exciting programming
  • Add to curriculum map
  • Re-survey teachers and students re library program
  • Continue weeding
  • Work on district wide collection development policy and include challenges policy - with other libs in district
  • Work on district wide across grade level library outcomes - apply for summer grant to do this
  • Expand teacher share shelf
  • Continue new books "parties: for teachers and staff
  • Invite teachers in
  • Pack for move
  • Build parent volunteers/student volunteers
  • Teaching assistant - build program

Year Three
