Improving Literacy Through School Libraries Grants

The U.S. Department of Education's Improving Literacy through School Libraries (LSL) program promotes comprehensive local strategies to improve student reading achievement by improving school library services and resources. New eligibility data are posted annually.
The application package for each year is available on the DOE's LSL Web site. Electronic application is required. Only local education agencies in which at least 20% of students served are from families with incomes below the poverty line are eligible to apply.
Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries

The goal of the Laura Bush Foundation is to provide print books to the school libraries and students that most need them. The Laura Bush Foundation will make grants of amounts up to $5,000 to school libraries; funds are to be used to update, extend and diversify the book collections of those libraries. All Laura Bush Foundation grants are made to individual schools rather than to school districts, foundations, or other entities. Only one application per school is allowed.
