Improving Literacy Through School Libraries Grants

The U.S. Department of Education's Improving Literacy through School Libraries (LSL) program promotes comprehensive local strategies to improve student reading achievement by improving school library services and resources. The deadline for FY 2004 applications was May 20, 2004. Ninety-two grants averaging $200,000 were awarded to eligible local education agencies (LEAs). Only LEAs in which at least 20% of students served are from families with incomes below the poverty line (based on the 2000 census) were eligible to apply.
Teen Read Week

When teenagers and teachers come to the conclusion that more time is needed to read for the fun of it, it's time to listen to what they are saying. Teen Read Week in 2005 will be October 16-22.
