Budget and Finance Meeting Highlights
2006 Midwinter Meeting

The Committee reviewed the FY 2005 Year End Financial Analysis (unaudited) and the FY 2006 Year-to-Date Financial Analysis.
The Committee heard a presentation from a representative of the ALA Executive Board regarding the ALA dues increase. Committee members expressed concern with the impact that the dues increase may have on PLA membership, as well as concern over receiving no specifics regarding how the additional income would be spent.
The Committee discussed the first draft of FY 2007 budget which will be presented at the annual conference to the PLA Board for approval.
2005 Annual Conference

The Budget & Finance Committee reviewed year-to-date reports and other relevant financial documents. Our main discussion item was the approval of the FY 06 budget, after reviewing the FY 2006 Draft Budget Overview and Summary and FY 2006 Excel spreadsheet with project line detail.

The Budget & Finance Committee members with Greta Southard, PLA Executive Director, reviewed the following documents:
FY 04 Year End Financial Analysis Overview
FY Year-to-date Report by PLA project based on the final close
FY 05 Financial Anaylsis Report throught November 2004
FY Year-to-date Report by PLA project through November 2004
First draft of the FY 06 Budget
FY 04-05 Financial Report Year-to-date report as of November 2004
Committee members also heard a presentation by Larry Neal, Chair of the PLA Recruitment Meeting, who had requested to fund a pilot project to fund 10 Spectrum Scholars for one year, offering a mentoring and CE program to the scholars, free PLA membership, allocating $2,000 toward Spectrum Scholar reception at ALA Annual Conference 2005. After discussing the proposal, the Budget & Finance Committee recommended that PLA award five Spectrum Scholarships and 5 PLA institutional Spectrum Scholarships.
Eva Poole, Chair of the Budget & Finance Committee appeared before the PLA Board at their meeting on January 17 and receieved a unanimous vote approving the Committee's recommendation.

2004 Annual Conference

The committee reviewed the FY04 YTD budget, including a detailed report on the Seattle National Conference. We then discussed the draft FY05 budget to present to the PLA Board for its approval. Suggestions were made to adjust some individual line items so that $250,000 could be transferred to the endowment and the projected final balance would be acceptable. Details were worked out by the Executive Director and the Committee Chair at the end of the meeting so a revised budget document would be ready to present to the Board at Board II, where it was eventually passed.
