To encourage improved library service through the involvement of public libraries in multi-jurisdictional library systems and the participation of public libraries in multi-type library systems; to provide a forum for discussion of problems distinctive to public library systems and to public library participation in library systems; to provide continuing education and information to the personnel of public library systems and to other public library personnel involved with library systems; to interpret the role of public library systems and public library involvement in library systems and the profession; to cooperate with other units of the American Library Association and other organizations that are concerned with the development of library systems; and to relate to other cooperative ventures of concern to public libraries.
