Word of Mouth

Word of mouth is more than just telling people. It’s delivering a consistent message and getting those people to tell other people. Think of the possibilities. Millions of people walk through library doors each day. But how often have we said to them, “Please tell your friends.” Some call it planting an “idea virus.”  We need people to be talking up libraries the same way Harley riders talk about their bikes. A dream, maybe. But if we talk the walk, others may follow.

  • Have a simple message that is easy to say and deliver.
  • Challenge yourself to talk to five people a day about the library and ask them to spread the word.
  • Deliver the message in a way that makes people feel—not just think—that the library is important. Have fun. Let your passion show!
