ACRL Environmental Scan Report Form

(deadline: May 15, 2006)

Dear ACRL leaders,

ACRL conducts an ongoing environmental scan to identify trends and emerging issues that may affect the future of higher education, academic libraries, and the association. The information gathered below will be used to update the annual assumptions (most recent assumptions [PDF]) and the biannual environmental scan report (most recent 2003 ACRL Environmental Scan [members only PDF]).

Please provide feedback for your committee/section or other unit as follows:

  1. Discuss with your unit the current " Assumptions About the Relevant Future for Research and Academic Librarians and Libraries" (PDF).
  2. For each topic area therein, use the form linked below to provide input:
    •  What needs to be modified?
    •  What needs to be added? Please provide a citation for your information if possible (your experience, a URL, a newspaper article, journal citation, etc.)
    • Identify the top three issues that are most relevant for ACRL to consider now (please indicate those issues by their assigned number on the list above). You may also list any issue you feel should be in the top three that is not already identified.
  3. Please list citations for any additional articles/papers/presentations you know of that touch on the trends and emerging issues that may affect the future of higher education, academic libraries, and the association. Briefly annotate, summarizing why the article/paper/presentation is relevant and should be included in the scan.
  4. Please list any ideas or thoughts you have on additional trends and emerging issues that may affect the future of higher education, academic libraries, and the association. Please be specific in describing each issue and its implications.

Thank you in advance for your participation in this key component of the ACRL strategic planning process.

James L. Mullins, Research Committee Chair
