Librarianship is experiencing a labor gap between increasing demand for library and information science professionals and a declining supply of qualified individuals. The increasing demand for library professionals, coupled with the changing nature of librarianship, is beginning to impact the recruiting environment, which in turn is likely become increasingly competitive. Given the increasing difficulty in recruiting MLIS graduates to academic libraries, retention of qualified and motivated employees also becomes critical.
