The ACRL Dr. E. J. Josey Spectrum Scholar Mentor Program

A program designed to assist Spectrum Scholars in becoming successful library professionals

Criteria for the ACRL Dr. E. J. Josey Spectrum Scholar Mentor Program

  1. Possess ten years of professional library experience
  2. Demonstrate leadership skills
  3. Commit to mentor culturally diverse librarians and be sensitive to their concerns
  4. Commit to be a mentor for one year beyond the degree or a maximum of three years because many Spectrum Scholars are part-time library school students
  5. Active ACRL Member
  6. Regularly attend ALA Midwinter or Annual Conferences and/or the ACRL National Conference
  7. Attend required ACRL Mentoring Program(s)
  8. Agree to contact mentee monthly or on a regular basis
  9. Agree to spend time at the conference when both mentor/mentee attend (relationship building)
  10. Submit a brief (one paragraph) mid-year report and an annual brief report about the mentor/mentee relationship (complete form)

Completed application packet should include:

  1. Completed application form ( online form)
  2. Resume or curriculum vitae (e-mail to mpetrowski@ala.org)
  3. Statement describing your interest in participation and what you expect to contribute/learn from the mentor/mentee relationship (e-mail to mpetrowski@ala.org
