Building a budget is a perennial administrative challenge. This webcast explores how (and what kinds of) readily available data can be used to improve and strengthen the budgeting process. Learn how data elements created by expenditures which can be used for future budgets and used to illustrate impact of the library to stakeholders. For example, should you adjust your budget allocations within staffing, collections, and other areas to improve alignment with your strategic plan? Explore how can you use expenditures data to show students how to take advantage of the library (and realize a return on their investment).
- Attendees will understand why data is needed to build a budget.
- Attendees will be able to identify the fundamental data needed to create any budget and how data can be used to monitor budgets.
- Attendees will learn how to use data to support budgeting for an academic library infrastructure needs (collections, facility, staffing, technologies)
- Attendees will appreciate how data derived from expenditures can be used for benchmarking, demonstrating support for the institutional goals, and communicating value to stakeholders.

Locate the webcast by the date of the event.
Select the "Register" link next to the Webcast title on ALA's webcast registration page (linked above).
You will need to log in with your ALA ID & password. If you do not have an ALA ID & password, you will be asked to create one in order to register.
Webcasts will be recorded and made available to registrants as an archive, so if you sign up but cannot attend the live event, you will receive the archived webcast recording.
ACRL Webcasts are held in an Adobe Connect virtual classroom. Speakers or a headset for listening to the presentation are required. You may ask questions through text-based chat. Adobe works on both PC and Apple platforms.
