Composition
As of August 2012, WGSS had 409 members. WGSS members are wide-ranging and include personal, organizational and corporate memberships. Members include librarians and other professionals, working and retired. WGSS welcomes new members and their ideas. WGSS offers many opportunities to get involved in committee work, program planning, and professional exchange.

Origin
The Women's Studies Section was established in 1987. In 2011, the section changed its name to Women & Gender Studies Section. At its 25th anniversary, the history of the section was presented.
