National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
An independent organization working to develop professional standards for teachers. Its site currently offers a policy statement and five propositions that form the rationale for the creation of such standards, a desciption of the process used for standards development, and summaries of the standards already prepared (full text copies must be ordered from the board). Standards documents currently completed or in preparation include ones ones for teachers of different age groupings as well as content-specific ones for teachers of middle level students and up. http://www.nbpts.org/

ISTE Recommended Foundations in Technology for All Teachers
Computer technology standards for all teachers which were developed by the International Society for Technology Education and adopted by NCATE [National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education]. National Council for the Social Studies
Links to an abbreviated version of its Curriculum Standards for Social Studies and Teacher Education Standards. The latter is a lengthy presentation of what the NCSS believes individuals should know and be able to do. http://www.ncss.org/

National Council of Teachers of English
The National Council of Teachers of English has ordering information for the English Language Arts Standards and several supplementary books, a short summary of the standards, and several relevant news articles. Its site also shows a link to guidelines for the preparation of English teachers but the link was not active as of December 1, 1997. http://www.ncte.org/

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
Follow the links on The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics homepage to an Overview, Executive Summary, and FAQ of the current standards as well as information on ordering the complete standards. http://www.nctm.org/

National Science Teachers Association
The National Science Teachers Association home page has links under "Professional Info" to NSTA Science Guides which includes lesson plans, websites, and activities aligned to the National Science Education Standards. U.S. History Standards
