Multicultural Pavilion
The Multicultural Pavilion offers educators and students resources relevant to multicultural education. The Pavilion’s Teacher’s Corner provides classroom resources including a Multicultural Song Index, Children’s Literature and Cultural Awareness Activities. Center for Research on Education, Diversity and Excellence
CREDE’s mission is to assist the nation’s diverse students at risk of educational failure to achieve academic excellence. CREDE is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Educational Research and Improvement, National Institute on the Education of At-Risk Students. The organization monitors several programs including Integrated Reform and System Studies, and Family, Peers, School and Community. NECA/Teaching for Change
NECA is a non-profit organization working for social and economic justice through public education. The web hosts the online Teaching for Change catalog with hundreds of multicultural, anti-racist books, videos and posters. Teaching Tolerance/Southern Poverty Law Center
Teaching Tolerance, an extension of the Southern Poverty Law Center, is a national education project committed to helping teachers promote equity and respect in the classroom. The organization offers free or low cost resources to educators. Rethinking Schools Online
Rethinking Schools Online, like its print counterpart, is dedicated to achieving equity. The periodical’s staff believes that public schools play a crucial role in creating a humane and multiracial democracy. Many of the articles discuss urban school issues and race. Educational Justice
Educational Justice promotes access to quality education for students from all racial and cultural backgrounds. The site includes a curriculum page with classroom activities and resources categorized by subject or group/culture. The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network
GLSEN works to assure that members of all schools are valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. GLSEN creates and distributes teacher training materials and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual-inclusive resources to elementary and secondary schools across the country. The organization has taken a stronger public policy position, and this is expressed on its web site. http://www.glsen.org
The Council for Exceptional Children
Council for Exceptional Children is the largest international organization dedicated to improving the educational success of students with disabilities and/or gifts. CEC’s web site includes information on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, best practices and professional development. The Department of Mathematics Education at the University of Georgia maintains the Multicultural Perspectives in Mathematics Education web site. The site includes an extensive bibliography in general, mathematics and science education. Each section examines theory, practice and research. Multicultural Approaches to Art Learning
This web site is one of many lesson plans and curriculum ideas from ArtsEdNet, the education branch of the Getty Museum web site. Celebrating Pluralism includes a panel discussion led by Dr. Graeme Chalmers on multicultural issues in art education.
