ACRL/STS Research Agenda Task Force
The task force will generate a research agenda for the ACRL STS Section. A research agenda will provide STS members with recommended areas for exploration in science and technology library research. Many members have to undertake research and seek publishing opportunities as part of their work assignment for their employer. The idea is to provide promising ideas that should prove useful. The task force will use a futures forecasting technique of their choice to generate the agenda.
There is a second part to the charge which focuses on how the research agenda is presented and used. It is hoped that the task force can rely on an ALA Emerging Leaders Project Team to develop a virtual collaboratory for use by Science & Technology Section members to explore the research agenda and make contacts for collaboration on research. The collaboratory can range from extensive use of ALA Connect or it could be a very different design. The functionality and actual software adoption is intended to be the choice of the ALA Emerging Leaders Project Team. If the virtual collaboratory project is not chosen by an Emerging Leaders Project Team, then the task force will accomplish this work as well. The task force will give a progress update at the STS Council II meeting in June of 2014 at the Las Vegas 2014 Annual Conference. The first official version of the research agenda and a functioning virtual collaboratory shall be slated for approval at the January 2015 Midwinter Meeting in Chicago. The STS Research Committee will monitor the use and aging of the research agenda and virtual collaboratory. The STS Research Committee will make recommendations for future modifications or updates to the STS Executive Committee.
The committee composition is determined by section leadership.
