Academic Libraries

Universidad de Talca
Library Director: Raúl Ravanal
Library website:

The Library System has three libraries: the Central Library in Talca, and campus libraries in Curico and Santiago. The main library building in Talca suffered serious damages to its roofing and walls. The main bulk of the collection was transferred to non library building who according to the library director is equivalent to 10% of the main library building. The rest of the collection (dissertations, reference, periodicals) is presently under storage.

Universidad de Concepción
Library Director: Olga Mora
Library website:

The Library System of the Universidad de Concepción (UDEC) is a network of libraries composed of the Central Library in the Concepcion campus, 2 campus libraries, 7 specialized libraries or collections. The UDEC Library System has more than 700.000 items which makes it one of the principal academic library collections in southern Chile.

The campus library of Chillan was hardest hit by last February's earthquake.  Although the Chillan library building did not sustain structural damages, many book shelves fell and need to be replaced.

Universidad del Bio Bio (UBB)
Library Director: Roberto Paredes
Library website:

The Library System of the UBB has 3 different campus libraries and a specialized library. According to the library director, for the most part its book shelves are intact. The library director expressed to me their need for renewing their online subscriptions for 2010-2011. One of the libraries which  is underground is particularly prone to flooding.
