ALA Operating Agreement

Part of the American Library Association's Financial Learning Series

This is a Budget Analysis and Review Committee (BARC) and ALA Finance staff webcast. The purpose of this webcast is to provide you with a basic understanding of the working relationship between ALA (General Fund) and the divisions and the document that makes that possible.

Although we are one Association, in many instances we operate in very different arenas. However, in those different arenas we are all pursuing the same goal of providing leadership in the development, promotion, and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all.

Because we are so different, there needed to be something that tied us all together in such a way so that we spoke with one voice and worked together as cohesively as possible. Additionally, we needed to find a way to equitably share the cost of operating the Association. To that end we have the “Operating Agreement.”

Here we will discuss why the Operating Agreement is important, how it is implemented and how everyone benefits. It is our hope that you will find this webcast informative.
