Before Coming...

PREPARE

  • Clarify your personal goals
  • Write 3 goals on a card and put in your planner to bring
  • Do the homework
  • Ask a colleague what they'd like you to bring back

During the Day...

MEET PEOPLE

  • Sit next to someone you don't know
  • Introduce people you do know
  • Find out about others experience, areas of expertise
  • Exchange contact information when you find someone with a common interest

CAPTURE IDEAS

  • Capture your ideas in key words
  • Highlight ideas and add notes to the workshop materials
  • Make your notes as clear as possible as you write since there's never time to rewrite

DEVELOP MEANING

  • Relate what you hear to your own interests
  • Relate ideas and techniques to your projects and priorities
  • Listen actively by thinking how you can use the information
  • Recognize all the ways the information reinforces what you are doing

PARTICIPATE

  • Ask questions
  • Make contributions
  • Encourage others to participate through your listening
  • Help facilitate in groups

ENJOY

  • Decide to have fun and be recharged
  • Focus on possibilities, not risks
  • Try something "out of character"
  • Take responsibility for your own comfort

PLAN AHEAD

  • Make notes on specific actions you plan to take
  • Write specific plans on your calendar while enthusiasm is fresh
  • Set up an appointment share ideas with a colleague within the next two weeks

When You Get Back...

CONNECT TO OTHER AGENDAS

  • Report back to and thank whoever helped you to attend
  • Contact three people (groups) whose agenda you might support with your learning
  • Use the workshop as an excuse to write about your ideas
  • Start a "study group" to discuss leadership priorities
