Goals and Objectives

Goal Area: Guidelines and Standards

The education community will have a shared vision that AASL's standards and guidelines are a model of excellence for student learning.

Objectives:

  1. Increase resources for implementing guidelines and standards.
  2. Increase awareness of the guidelines and standards by strategic stakeholders.
  3. Increase training opportunities for school librarians.
  4. Increase outside funding to maximize opportunities for implementation.

Goal Area: Professional Development

AASL's professional development opportunities are essential, valuable, and available to school librarians.

Objectives:

  1. Increase professional development opportunities current and new.
  2. Increase avenues for timely access to professional information and best practices.
  3. Increase usage of AASL professional development by nonmembers.

Goal Area: Advocacy

All stakeholders understand and recognize that the school librarian and school library programs are essential to teaching and learning.

Objectives:

  1. Increase member involvement at all levels: local, state, and national.
  2. Increase involvement by key external stakeholders.
  3. Improve ALA’s impact on advancing AASL’s advocacy goals.

Goal Area: Community

AASL fosters vibrant, inclusive, accessible, and supportive communities for school librarians.

Objectives:

  1. Increase the number of members participating in AASL and ALA leadership.
  2. Increase SLs' understanding of the value of AASL.
  3. Increase support of and communication with state affiliates.
  4. Increase the diversity of the membership and leadership of AASL.
