Charge

To foster within the school library field the identification of research needs, the encouragement for quality research studies, and the dissemination of research results; and to make available summaries of research on the worth of school librarians and school library programs for a variety of audiences.

Function

  • Develop summaries of research on the worth of school librarians and school library programs, in a variety of forms and products, and designed for use by AASL members with difference audiences of decision-makers.

  • Identify research needs to coordinate research activities of AASL.

  • Establish a liaison relationship with the ALA Research office.

  • Inform school library professionals concerning the value and application of research techniques applicable in their situations through articles in AASL publications and conference presentations.

  • Provide advisory services concerning the collection, analysis, and dissemination of school library statistics.
