Friends of AASL
The Friends of AASL program ensures excellence in service to the profession and supports future growth and viability. Program funds provide additional financial support for AASL programs and initiatives which enhance the association's mission and goals and also reach above and beyond traditional membership services as guided by AASL's strategic plan and Learning4Life.
As a Friend of AASL, your generous donation will subsidize AASL special projects or general fund/strategic plan initiatives such as:
- Spectrum Scholarship Fund
Support Spectrum Scholar travel stipends to AASL’s Fall Forum or National Conference. The Spectrum Scholarship Program’s mission is to improve service at the local level through the development of a representative workforce that reflects the communities served by all libraries in the new millennium.
Support the national implementation plan for AASL Standards for the 21st-Century Learner and Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Programs. Support Learning4Life initiatives such as student video contests, development of the lesson plan database, development of the Common Core State Standards and AASL learning standards crosswalk, and an ever growing list of resources to assist school librarians and school library programs.
Support AASL’s advocacy efforts including Capitol Hill briefings, resources development such as the School Library Programs Improve Student Learning advocacy brochures series, toolkits, and Banned Website Awareness Day.
- General Fund/Strategic Plan
Support of AASL’s strategic goals, updated every 3-5 years, and which currently includes items such as eCOLLAB (AASL’s online professional development repository), online webinars (Knowledge Quest, Banned Website Awareness Day, School Library Month), and development of building level advocacy tools to assist school librarians in developing their personal advocacy plan.
