Skills and Content Standards: Let's Mash 'Em Up!

This session will give participants an opportunity to explore strategies for making connections between the AASL Standards for the 21st Century Learner and other state and national standards.

Webinar Objectives

The participants will:

1. Be able to articulate the connections between the AASL Standards for the 21st-Century Learner and their own district or state content standards, the Partnership for 21st-Century Skills, and the ISTE-NETS.
2. Be able to identify keywords and resources for cross-referencing the standards with other standards.
3. Be able to articulate skill instruction in terms of learning objectives.

Meet the presenter

Kristin Fontichiaro, MLIS, is an elementary media specialist with the Birmingham Public Schools in Birmingham, Michigan. She is a member of the AASL Learning Standards and Guidelines Implementation Task Force and the AASL Advocacy Committee.

Along with Judi Moreillon, she is co-guest-editor of the November/December 2009 issue of Knowledge Quest, focusing on professional practice to meet the AASL Standards. This year, she authored or co-authored an article on integrating the AASL Standards for each issue of Knowledge Quest. She is a regular contributor to School Library Media Activities Monthly and writes its blog on 21st-century school libraries. She is the author of Podcasting at School (Libraries Unlimited, 2008) and Active Learning Through Drama, Podcasting, and Puppetry (Libraries Unlimited, 2007) and co-author of Story Starters and Science Notebooking: Developing Student Thinking Through Literacy and Inquiry (Teacher Ideas Press) and co-editor of an upcoming compendium of articles on 21st-century learning in school libraries (Libraries Unlimited). 

A member of the inaugural (2007) class of the American Library Association’s Emerging Leaders program, Kristin was named the Distinguished Alumna of the Wayne State University School of Information and Library Science in 2008.
