ALA announces Ken Haycock Award for Promoting Librarianship

The American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to annoucne the Ken Haycock Award for Promoting Librarianship, previously known as the Herb and Virginia White Award for Promoting Librarianship. 

The award honors an individual for contributing significantly to the public recognition and appreciation of librarianship through professional performance, teaching and/or writing.  Haycock was the recipient of the award in 2001.

The donor is Ken Haycock, professor, University of British Columbia, School of Library, Archival & Information Studies.  Haycock also is an ALA Executive Board Member, 1999-2003.

The recipient will receive $1,000 and a citation.  The deadline to turn in an application is December 1, 2003.  The application is currently online at  The award will be given at the 2004 ALA Annual Conference in Orlando, Fla., during the ALA awards reception.
