New PLA publication addresses emergency response

CHICAGO – The Public Library Association (PLA) is pleased to announce a new publication, “Field Guide to Emergency Response: A Vital Tool for Cultural Institutions,” now is available for purchase on the American Library Association (ALA) Online Store (www.alastore.ala.org).  Originally produced by Heritage Preservation through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, “Field Guide to Emergency Response” is available to ALA members for $31.50 ($35.00 for non-members).

Every year, hundreds of museums, libraries, archives and historic sites experience emergencies large and small.  “Field Guide to Emergency Response” provides the best professional, step-by-step advice on what to do in preparation for and immediately following a disaster.  The handbook also includes an instructional DVD to demonstrate basic salvage techniques and prepare your response team for typical problems that take place after a disaster.

“Field Guide to Emergency Response” (ISBN# 978-0-8389-8426-0) and other PLA publications may also be ordered by calling 1-866-Shop ALA (1-866-746-7252). For more information on PLA publications, contact the PLA office at 800-545-2433, ext. 5PLA, or visit PLA’s Web site at www.pla.org.

PLA is a division of the American Library Association.  PLA’s core purpose is to strengthen public libraries and their contribution to the communities they serve. Its mission is to enhance the development and effectiveness of public library staff and public library services.
